Bio Summary:

Sept. 6, 2010 --

Sounds like the reunion was fun and acted as a re-uniter after all the years since we graduated, thinking that we knew it all...

I've kept myself linked to the Upper Valley since 1965 in various ways, mainly because my family has land and a house in Canaan. This January I will finish a 29+ year career as an officer and detective with the Madison Police Dept.

Last May, Martha and I converted our Vermont civil union into a legal marriage and had our wedding in the Canaan Meeting House, across from the lake. So once we can sell our house here, the plan is for us to move into the house up there and start some big renovations. When that time comes, hopefully some of you can steer us to good people to help with designs, green-friendly builders, etc. Since Martha and I met in Hanover in 1974, we're excited to be returning!

We have 2 grown kids, and 2 grandkids – all presently on the West coast. We look forward to meeting/re-meeting you one of these days!

Peace,
Alix Olson and Martha Popp

Alix Olson Award for the Promotion of a Tolerant and Just Community

When: 03/15/2011 @ 6:00pm
Web: www.cityofmadison.com/dcr/eohatecrimes.cfm

Please join us for the first of what we hope will become an annual awarding of The Alix Olson Award for The Promotion of a Tolerant and Just Community at LaFollette High School next Tuesday, March 15th.

STAJOH (Seeking Tolerance and Justice Over Hate) is composed of representatives of government agencies from the City of Madison, Dane County, the Madison Metropolitan School District, the State of Wisconsin, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison as well as community-based agencies throughout Dane County. Most members of this collaboration have attended one or more of the Museum for Tolerance Institutes (Los Angeles). Recently retired MPD Detective Alix Olson has been the heart and soul of this group. She has spearheaded many projects, formed cooperative alliances against hate and hate crimes, and arranged for local Institute attendees for more than a decade.

As a result of her hard work and dedication, STAJOH is creating this award in her honor.
